I happened to be close-by, getting some tires put on my truck. My buddy picked me up and we wandered south a little ways till we came to Old Country Cafe. He said he had been in there before and liked it, so we made our way to the back lot and parked. First off, you can walk in out of inclement weather and wait in the enclosed entryway. They even have seating, I suppose for waiting to get a table during busier times. We took a seat and ordered one of the breakfast skillets. The meals were filling, hot and delicious. Two waitresses were doing a good job keeping up with everything. I don't know if it was a typical day or not, because I saw some Border Patrol seated at one table and groups of women scattered here and there. But the women kept coming, and coming. Pretty soon, my ears were wringing with all the female conversation going on. There must have been some sort of club or church group paying a visit. Still, they were enjoying themselves and definitely picked this restaurant over others. For a good meal at reasonable prices, I recommend Old Country Cafe.

Ordered a chef salad. How can a chef salad be bad? I don't know either, but they managed to do it. Server was distracted while waiting on us so basically the service was not good either. Will not go back.

The food here is about average. A small town diner that could use some heavy cleaning and a face lift. The menu is large and has something for everyone. Mostly locals and a slow kitchen makes this a place you go to when you have more than a few minutes to kill. The waitresses are busy and try for the most part to remain upbeat. It's easy to want to return here in the hopes of getting that special meal you would cross town for. But.......it has not happened - the food is under seasoned and tastes frozen not fresh.

We had stopped in for lunch, should have gone to the Coney Island in St. Clair. This place has been through a lot of management\ownership changes. The waitress was quite inattentive. I asked what specials they had and she walked away. I ordered the Burrito and while it was ok, the olive\lettuce garnish had spoiled olives on it. I requested a fresh order of olives and I received the same olives, but this time a bit colder...still spoiled though. Coffee pours were infrequent and when it came time for the bill, we had to go to the register and ask for it. Personally, I would avoid this place and make it the last place to go to in St. Clair. Food there was nothing special...could get what we got anywhere, and the service likely might have been better.

Average diner. The food is a little bland and the place needs cleaning up. I think the people were family friendly and it's has a great vibe!

I stop in here once or twice every year in late January - and so I just had my annual stop. This is your typical mom-and-pop type diner in a small town. The menu is pretty broad, and as you might guess- Breakfast is served all day. The decor is on par with most diners that haven't seen a face-lift in 20 years- but I think that is to its benefit. They have a couple of flat screens usually showing sports or news - but the best is a flat screen that is about the size of my laptop screen that plays CMT non-stop. I don't know who can see or hear what is playing- I'm not complaining since I hate country music, but a TV that small is comical in a restaurant. The Old Country Cafe always has a boatload of specials, all of them very down-on-the-farm, like your mom used to make. I favor the breakfasts as they are pretty good and also fill me up. The day I stopped in most recently half of the place had ordered the Chicken Parmesan... but I wasn't ready to eat all that for lunch. The one thing to be noted is that in a town of this size, the crowd is all regulars. Every year I stick out like a sore thumb in my work clothes - as jeans, camo and the occasional police uniform are in the majority here. On this last visit, every table in the place was full and the 2 waitresses were hustling to get everyone fed. As busy as they are, they are always more than willing to split the check up at the register. This is not the best food I have ever eaten - it's not even close to my favorite hole-in-the-wall, but I am sure I will continue to stop in on my annual trip to St. Clair every winter.
